Motocross (sometimes abbreviated as MX or MotoX) is a style of riding a motorcycle or ATV on off-road or special looped tracks. Motocross is considered the most popular motorcycle sport in the world. Motocross began to gain popularity from France, where it was previously called Scrambling, but was invented in the UK. The world's first motocross race was held in Camberley in 1924. The name Motocross is derived from the words Motorcycle and Cross Country. Gradually, the name was shortened to MX.
